From One Quail Owner To Another
It has been over a week since the incident and Sleepy is on the road to recovery, or so we hope. It is hard to be sure, especially because of the evident lack of verbal communication. I mean, I talk to to Sleepy all the time but she never talks back. Maybe it hurts too much? I can't be sure. As a concerned quail owner I am calling out for help. Sleepy is still here with us however, I have not witnessed her eat yet. Sleepy is unusually immobile and she is not interacting with her quail peers. I love my quail and I am deeply concerned about Sleepy. Can anyone relate? Please comment below. I need your help.
Dear Hannah,
ReplyDeleteRest your worries aside! Sleepy is definitely eating as she would not be looking as healthy and active as she is without being self sustained on fresh food and water. Perhaps her silence is her way of inwardly thinking about some form of revenge against the savage crows. When I (yikes I am going to say it - as a quail grandmother) call to her - she seems to perk up and wattle my way. She knows who her friends are. Instead of hoping for communication with Sleepy - take note of how she responds to your voice - does she try to move closer to you? Pick her up - does she snuggle in your arms or flap her wings to escape (knowing what a sincere quail lover you are I would say she does do those things that show she loves you and trusts you. Keep up the good work. I hear there may be some babies on the way. Is this true?
Hi Tiara,
DeleteThank you for your comment!! Sorry to say that I cannot technically confirm that babies are on the way because that sort of information is kept confidential. However, I will keep you and all other views posted. Thank you sooo much for your advice. As I have mentioned in a previous post ( How to: bond with your quail) building a mutual trust between you and your quail is essential. I think that Sleepy may have developed some sort of QPTSD ( quail post traumatic stress disorder) however day by day, I think that she is realizing two things.
#1. I am not a crow.
and
#2. I am not going to hurt her, I am going to love her <3
My quail was bitten by a poisonous spider, and we healed him. I am sure, that even if your quail was harmed this much, it will me okay. I see you are feeding Sleepy with a syringe (which usually works very well). I'm sure all will be well and Sleepy will get back to her normal self soon!
ReplyDeleteDear Bunch Berge,
DeleteYour comment made my day! What a beautiful story! To be honest, I totally teared up. Wow, a poisonous spider bite, a crow attack. You were right, quail are survivors. Thank you for your comment. Oh and Sleepy thanks you too!!
